The initiating processes determine the nature and scope of the project. If this stage is not performed well, it is unlikely that the project will be successful in meeting the business’ needs of the Client.
The initiating stage includes a plan that encompasses the following areas:
- Analyzing the business needs & requirements of Client in measurable goals
- Stakeholder analysis, including users, and support personnel for the project and their group management
- Developing the Project charter including tasks, deliverables, and schedule The Project Initiation Report prepared by AMS typically documents the following and is used later for issuing of RFP (requests for proposals) during the later stages of the project:
- Reasons for undertaking the project
- Objectives and constraints of the project
- Directions concerning the solution
- Identities of the main stakeholders
- In-scope and out-of-scope items
- Communication plan
- Target project benefits
